Step by Step
If you've always wanted to discover the secrets of Hannover's imposing New Town Hall, this guided tour is for you. Accompanied by a local guide, you will have access to rooms that are normally closed to the public, learning about the history, architecture and symbolism of this monumental building.
Built in the Wilhelminian style in the early 20th century, the town hall is one of the most recognisable symbols of Hannover. Its dome, rising to almost 98 metres, dominates the cityscape and represents the splendour of an era marked by power and modernity.
One of the most interesting stops on the tour are the four models of the city on display inside, showing the development of Hannover in 1689, 1939, 1945 (after the bombing) and the present day. These representations offer a unique insight into the urban development and historical changes the city has undergone.
For 45 minutes, you will walk through carefully selected historic corridors and rooms, with explanations in German to help you understand the function and significance of each space. Although the tour does not include the ascent to the tower with its famous curved lift, tickets can be purchased separately from the building itself.
This tour is ideal for lovers of history, architecture and those who want to see the political and symbolic heart of Hannover from the inside.
