Step by Step
The origin of the Galician queimada dates back to uncertain times: some place it in Celtic times, others in the Middle Ages. What is certain is that this fiery drink, based on brandy, sugar and lemon peel, has been used for centuries to break curses, protect against the evil eye and attract good fortune.
In this workshop you will live an immersive and magical experience in the heart of Santiago de Compostela. Meet the group in the Plaza de San Martiño, from where you will be accompanied to the place where the ritual will take place, decorated with a mysterious and traditional atmosphere.
Once in the room, you will be seated around a table with a large earthenware bowl, the centre of the ritual. Then a meiga or druid will come into action, who will guide you step by step in the making of the queimada and will talk to you about the symbolism of the elements earth, water and fire. The most special moment comes with the "Conxuro da Queimada", a spell that you will recite with the group while the liquid burns, creating an unforgettable visual spectacle.
At the end of the incantation, the queimada will be tasted by the adults. A warm, tasty and traditional way to conclude this unique experience of Galician culture.
