Step by Step
The Seattle Aquarium is one of the city's top attractions, dedicated to inspiring marine conservation. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by the "Window to Washington Waters" exhibit, an impressive 120,000-gallon tank that replicates local coastal habitats and houses species such as salmon, rockfish and anemones. This exhibit immerses you in Washington State's marine ecosystems, giving you an up-close look at their diversity.
One of the highlights is the"Underwater Dome", a 360-degree structure that allows you to view the marine life of Puget Sound from every angle. Here, you'll get an up-close look at sharks, sturgeon and other species that inhabit the depths of the region. This dome offers a unique perspective, immersing you in the underwater environment and allowing you to appreciate the interaction of various species in their natural habitat.
The aquarium also has areas dedicated to marine mammals, where you can meet sea otters, harbour seals and sea lions. These exhibits not only show the behaviour and characteristics of these animals, but also educate about the conservation and rehabilitation efforts being made to protect them.
In addition, the "Birds and Shores" section invites you to explore coastal habitats and observe native birds such as puffins and guillemots. This area highlights the interconnection between marine and terrestrial ecosystems and the importance of preserving both.
For a more enriching experience, the aquarium offers educational programmes and daily lectures given by expert staff. These sessions provide detailed information about the species on display, their habitats and ongoing conservation initiatives. In addition, there are interactive activities designed to engage visitors of all ages, encouraging a deeper understanding and active commitment to the protection of the marine environment.
