Prague is a city best enjoyed on foot. Its cobblestone streets, historic squares and the Vltava River create a perfect setting for outdoor exploration at any time of the year. In spring and summer, parks and terraces come alive; in autumn, golden colors envelop the city; and in winter, Christmas markets turn every walk into a magical experience.

If you want to discover the essence of Prague beyond its monuments, here are some of the best activities to enjoy outdoors.

1. Visit to the Terezín concentration camp

About 60 km from Prague, the Terezín Concentration Camp is a place of memory that allows you to learn about one of the darkest chapters of European history. During World War II, thousands of people were detained here in extreme conditions.

A tour of the barracks, courtyards and rooms will help you to better understand the events that took place here. An expert guide will tell you the stories of those who passed through Terezín, making this visit a moving and unmissable experience.

2. Discovering the natural beauty of Saxon Switzerland and Bohemia

If you want a break from the city, an excursion to Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland is a perfect choice. This natural park, located on the border between the Czech Republic and Germany, is a paradise of forests, rock formations and breathtaking viewpoints.

The Bastei Bridge, a stone arch suspended over the Elbe River, is one of its main attractions, along with the Pravčice Gate, the largest rock formation of its kind in Europe. A day of hiking in this region will allow you to disconnect and enjoy nature in its purest state.

This was an excellent tour. The two young men that took us thru the tour were extremely knowledgeable and eager to share their knowledge and address questions. Their passion for history and desire to share with others was endless. One guide met us onsite, the other traveling with us using the opportunity to go beyond by pointing out and explaining other sites of interest and interact with the group along the one hour drive each way. Lastly, the van driver got us there on schedule and safely. Money and time well spent.

"The guided tour is amazing and very complete, but the lunch on board the cruise could have more food options.
