Step by Step

You will enjoy a guided tour of the Catacombs of Paris, the most famous cemeteries in Paris. A local guide will accompany you on a 2-hour tour through some of the 322 km of tunnels 20 metres below the centre of the capital. Throughout the tour, you will be part of a small group, with a maximum of 14 people, so the guide will be able to give you a more personalised experience, and you will be able to ask him any questions you want. You will also enter the Catacombs directly, without waiting in line.

These tunnels under the city of Paris were, during Roman times, limestone mines, hence their labyrinthine route. However, it became a cemetery in the 18th century. Since then, it has remained an ossuary housing the skeletons and skulls of more than 6 million Parisians.

Specifically, this visit will give you access to restricted areas of the Catacombs, which are only accessible if you are accompanied by a guide. You will be able to see the remains of great figures such as Rabelais and Robespierre or the galleries of Port Mahon where you will find the secret sculptures of a worker chiselled for 5 years before being crushed by a landslide. Not forgetting the hidden tomb of Gilbert where there are also monuments to the living who lived in those tunnels.

I was expecting a bit more of the history of the place, but I thought the tour was superb and very professional throughout.

Very interesting, I did not expect to find so many bones, maybe a little scary the place but I found it very interesting, I even wanted to continue listening to the guide.
