Step by Step
This tour takes you to the Kakhetia region, known for its wine tradition, Orthodox monasteries and the Caucasus Mountains. An air-conditioned vehicle with an expert guide will take you there, giving you the opportunity to sample the local gastronomy and wines. The itinerary takes approximately 12 hours and includes the following stages:
- Badiauri - In this small village, a stop is scheduled at a bakery where you can taste Khachapuri (a flat bread stuffed with melted cheese typical of the Caucasus regions) and other traditional baked goods
- Sighnaghi - A well-preserved medieval town. The main attraction is the fortress, which includes a wall that surrounds it and overlooks the surrounding valley. Nicknamed "the city of love", it is very lively and has a wide range of restaurants.
- Monastery of Santa Ninó - Monastic complex on a hillside. Built in the 9th century, it is dedicated to the woman who brought Christianity to Georgia.
In Georgia, the wine tradition is very old, dating back to about 6000 BC. The tasting includes 7 local wines, made exclusively from local grapes. The most popular and famous are Saperavi (a robust red with notes of liquorice, bay leaf and spices), Rkatsiteli (a floral white with hints of lime, fennel and tropical fruits) and Mtsvane, a fresh white with a slight mineral aftertaste.
The tastings take place in two cellars. The first is the Khareba Winery (the wines rest in a cave dug into the rocks of the Caucasus) while the second is the Kindzmarauli Corporation, a winery founded in the 16th century.
For this tour, it is advisable to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, carry cash and appropriate attire for entering the churches.
