The Hamburg International Maritime Museum is located in the HafenCity area, an urban complex next to the harbour where the warehouse city, Speicherstadt, is located. This building is famous not only for its reddish, picturesque façade, but also for housing the world's largest private maritime collection.
With around 40,000 objects and more than a million photographs, with dozens of ship models, construction plans, shipyard parts and works of naval art, this place is one of Hamburg's key tourist attractions. It also houses various exhibitions, such as one on Viking sea explorations.
There are a total of 11 floors, each dedicated to a different theme. Here you will learn about fishing, water sports, naval engineering, cruising, civil harbours, merchant navies and much more.
