Genoa's aquarium, the second largest in Europe, is the perfect place to visit during your stay in the Italian city if you want to discover more about the marine world. There are informative exhibits and recreational activities to learn about the subject, and you'll get to see exotic animals with your own eyes.

From sharks to penguins, crocodiles, manatees, rays, dolphins and turtles. Species like these and up to 15,000 other animals can be found in the museum. The animals come from different habitats, such as freshwater lakes or rainforests, so the experience guarantees variety and many discoveries.

With a total of 3000 square metres of space, the Genoa Aquarium is one of the best known and most acclaimed aquariums in Europe. It was built for Expo 1992 and houses 71 water tanks for storing the animals. It has up to 400 different species from all over the world, making it one of the most biodiverse water parks in the world.

Here you will find different areas dedicated to different themes, for example:

• Laguna delle Sirene: where manatees, one of the most endangered marine species, are exhibited.
• Shark Bay: a space where these predators are concentrated and where you will learn about their categories and types: grey sharks, nurse sharks, etc.
• Grotta delle Murene: go through a tunnel surrounded by a cylindrical tank full of moray eels, trumpet fish, seahorses and octopuses.
