Step by Step
Join this visit to the Veiled Christ in Naples, considered one of the masterpieces of world sculpture. In addition, a tour of the historic centre with an expert guide is also included. You will have access to the Cappella Sansevero Museum where you will witness the most influential work of the artist Giuseppe Sanmartino: the Veiled Christ.
You will see beautiful places such as the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore or Spaccanapoli. This experience will last about 2 hours. Groups will have approximately 8 participants, thus optimising the experience.
The Sansevero Chapel is one of the most emblematic museums of "The Pizza Capital of the World" and is located in Piazza San Domenico Maggiore. Here you will see the Veiled Christ, its most famous work, dating from 1753. This sculpture represents the dead Jesus Christ covered by a marble veil that gives the impression of being transparent.
The artistic richness of the work is obvious and the anatomical details and precision in the sculpting of the veil are an example of this. There are legends concerning the sculpture: it is said that a famous scientist and alchemist taught Sanmartino the method of calcification that allows the fabric to be transformed into crystalline marble.
It is worth noting that Antonio Canova himself, the Italian neoclassical painter and sculptor, tried to buy the Veiled Christ, but was unsuccessful.
