Step by Step
This excursion lasts between 7 and 8 hours and starts from a central point in Syracuse. An air-conditioned vehicle will drop you off at the access to the Etna Park, from where you will start the ascent to the volcano accompanied by an expert guide. You can choose the route that best suits your fitness and preferences. The guide will be happy to help you choose the best one. For an additional charge you can also enjoy a snack with a view.
One of the most famous sites are the ancient craters, a series of volcanic chimneys that were formed during the historical eruptions of Etna. Some of them have been active in the past, but may no longer be active now, while others are still periodically active.
The ascent to the upper craters requires good physical condition and can be challenging. Here, volcanic activity is more intense and you can enjoy extraordinary views of eastern Sicily and the Mediterranean. If you're looking for adventure, this could be the right choice for you.
Etna Park covers an area of more than 59,000 hectares and encompasses both the slopes of the volcano and its summit. It is divided into several zones, each with its own natural features: coniferous forests, lava flows, lunar landscapes and green meadows. The park offers the opportunity to observe volcanic activities such as fumaroles and boiling mud pools up close. With a bit of luck, golden eagles, foxes, chamois and other animals can be spotted during the walk.
