Step by Step

A guided tour allows you to see the most beautiful monuments of Turin in about 2 hours. The itinerary takes place in all seasons and includes the main monuments, such as:

  • Piazza San Carlo: heart of the city and starting point of four important streets: Via Roma, Via Garibaldi, Via Po and Via Pietro Micca.
  • Ristorante del Cambio: Michelin stars are not its only claim to fame. Audrey Hepburn, Casanova, Nietzsche and the Agnelli family, the owners of Fiat, dined here.
  • Palazzo Carignano: a splendid example of baroque architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today it houses the National Museum of Italian Unification.
  • Galleria Subalpina: typical 19th century shopping arcade that mixes Renaissance and Baroque styles.
  • Palazzo Madama: elegant building linked to Maria Cristina of Bourbon, regent of the House of Savoy, who made it her residence. Nowadays it is the seat of the Municipal Museum of Ancient Art.
  • Palazzo Reale: a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was the centre of power of the Savoy family and is famous for its richly decorated interiors.
  • Teatro Regio: commissioned by King Charles Emmanuel III of Savoy, it was built in the 17th century, but little remains of the original structure. It has a modern aesthetic, but remains one of the most important opera houses in the country.
  • Mole Antonelliana: it is the symbol of Turin and its great dome stands out in the skyline of the city. It was designed as a synagogue and now houses the Cinema Museum.

Another emblematic building is the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, built in the 15th century by Amedeo de Francisco da Settignano. Since 1997 it has housed the Holy Shroud, the cloth in which the body of Jesus was wrapped after his deposition from the cross.

Turin is one of the cities I liked the most in Italy. I recommend you to visit it with a guide, it made a huge difference compared to visiting other cities on my own. The history of the place and its monuments are much more appreciated. The cafes in Turin get all my compliments.
