The park, which has almost 90% of its animals in large exhibits with their own natural landscape, was officially opened in 1963 and is home to some 5,000 animals of over 450 species, including tigers, elephants, giraffes and orangutans.
The zoo is divided into several sections, including the Aviary, the Reptilarium and the Savannah Walkway. Visitors can also enjoy animal shows, such as the popular bird show and the sea lion show.
The zoo, which is located five kilometres from the centre of the Malaysian capital, is definitely a major tourist attraction. It's a great place to learn about Malaysia's diverse wildlife and see many of the country's unique animals up close. The zoo is open every day of the year and visitors of all ages are welcome. You can also ride a tram inside the zoo for an additional cost, although children under the age of two are free of charge.
