Step by Step
On this tour you will have the opportunity, for about 3 hours, to visit the Akumal Monkey Sanctuary in Playa del Carmen. This sanctuary is known for its programmes to reintroduce animals into their natural habitats, in an attempt to promote the preservation of local wildlife and the environment.
Throughout the tour, an expert guide will accompany you and tell you lots of interesting facts about the behaviour of the local wildlife, as well as its biology and history . You will learn about the sanctuary's rehabilitation practices, as well as about the training the animals receive to be able to live in the wild again.
It is also important to note that you will be in a small group of no more than 8 people , ensuring that you will enjoy a more personalised and intimate experience.
The sanctuary is home to a multitude of animal species, including monkeys, but also ostriches, wild birds, snakes and even zebras. Due to the introduction of a law in Mexico prohibiting the use of animals in shows, many owners donated their animals to the sanctuary, where they are now cared for.
This is an activity full of nature, very illustrative of the importance of respect for the environment and animal life, which makes it perfect for families and children.
