Major League Soccer

Major League Soccer (MLS) will feature 30 clubs in 2025 with the addition of San Diego FC, divided into the Eastern and Western conferences.

History of the MLS

The league debuted in 1996 with 10 teams and has expanded with new franchises and dedicated stadiums. The Designated Player Rule of 2007 facilitated the arrival of stars like David Beckham; VAR was implemented in 2017, and since 2023, the MLS has been broadcast entirely on Apple TV. In 2024, limits were introduced to speed up substitutions and treat injuries off the field, and in 2025, salary improvements are coming in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.

Notable MLS Players

Landon Donovan, Jaime Moreno, Carlos Valderrama, David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Carlos Vela, and Lorenzo Insigne stand out among the key names in the championship.

Information about the MLS Schedule

The regular season of 34 matches per team will take place from February 22 to October 18, 2025. Each club plays 28 times against conference rivals (home and away) and six matches against the opposite conference. The championship pauses for a month for the Leagues Cup with Liga MX, the All-Star Game will take place on July 23 in Austin, and the playoffs will kick off in late October with a wildcard round and a best-of-three first round.
