Step by Step

A guided tour of Porto is the best opportunity to learn about the history of the city and some of its most important points of interest. The tour lasts approximately 3 hours, which is enough time for a complete walking tour of the historic centre, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

An expert local guide will accompany you along the way to give you all the information you need at each stop along the way. You will discover the rich history of the city, legends, fun facts and all about the different influences that have made Porto what it is today.

You will see how the city was created from Moorish rule to its near destruction by the French in the 19th century. You'll be able to stroll near the ancient walls of Romanesque architecture, set against the classical Baroque architecture of the church of Santa Clara.

Of course, there will be time to stop by the most emblematic monuments of the city and take some nice souvenir photos:

  • Porto Cathedral, known as Sé do Porto, one of the oldest monuments in Portugal.
  • Sao Bento station, which connects the Minho railway line and the Douro valley.
  • The Mercado do Bolhao, one of the city's most traditional markets for local food.
  • The Torre dos Clérigos, a clear example of 18th century architecture and an emblem of the city.
  • Ribeira Square, located in the Ribeira neighbourhood, one of the oldest areas of the city.

And beyond the old town, other more modern but equally interesting places await you, such as the Ponte de Dom Luis I bridge. This original metal bridge was built by one of Gustave Eiffel's disciples and is often reminiscent of the tower.

The Cais de Gaia invites you to look at the various wine cellars along the promenade. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of the Douro River and stroll near the traditional wooden boats "rabelos", originally used to transport grapes to the wineries.

Please note that this is a small group tour, but you also have the option to book a private tour.
