Take the opportunity to enjoy this tour of Los Cármenes in Granada. With a duration of approximately 2 hours and in a small group of about 16 participants, you will learn about one of the typical architectural elements of this city and its history, thanks to the explanations of a local guide.

The houses are characteristic for their architecture of the Nasrid period, surrounded by flowers, orchards and gardens. You will also enjoy your entrance to the Carmen de los Mártires, the most famous and which also offers spectacular panoramic views of this Andalusian city.

Los Cármenes are a typical type of dwelling in Granada, characterised by their annexed green spaces and gardens or orchards. They are of Arab origin and are usually home to numerous trees and fragrant flowers, such as roses and jasmines. Most of them are located in the area of the Albaycin, the old Arab quarter, the Realejo, the old Jewish district, or near the Alhambra area.

Theyoften served as second homes for the upper classes of Granada and had irrigation ditches, channels, fountains and pools through which water flowed, as well as small farms and, to a lesser extent, livestock farms.

El Carmen de los Mártires is the best known by visitors. It has unique characteristics due to its magnificent mansion and its beautiful and romantic orchards. It also has a privileged location, due to its views of the Vega de Granada, the city and the Sierra Nevada. Since 1943, it has been an Asset of Cultural Interest and, according to legend, it is said that King Boabdil left from this place to hand over the city to Isabella the Catholic during the Reconquest.
