Once you've been picked up at the meeting point in León, you'll set off with your small group of 2 towards the natural landscape of Las Médulas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once you've arrived at your destination, you'll head to the visitor reception centre, where a guide specialising in Las Médulas will be waiting for you. At the beginning of your visit you will watch a short 15-minute documentary and learn about the history of how this unique site, once used by the Romans as a mine to extract gold, came to be.
During your guided tour of approximately two hours you will discover the process of mineral extraction, how it altered the landscape of the area and finally how it resulted in today's reddish sandy landscape covered with chestnut and oak trees.
See the spectacular and rugged rocky mountains and before leaving for Ponferrada, make a short stop at the impressive viewpoint of Orellán to enjoy the best views of the area.
After the visit to Las Médulas, you will continue your route to the beautiful city of Ponferrada, capital of the Bierzo region.
