Step by Step

This activity consists of a visit to the Liria Palace in Madrid. This neoclassical building is the official residence of the House of Alba, one of the most iconic Spanish noble families. The entrance will allow you to enter without queuing and you will be able to use an audio guide.

This place has up to 14 rooms among which you will find luxury suites and works of art by painters such as Goya, Velázquez, el Greco, Murillo and Ribera. Its vaulted ceilings, extensive gardens and art collection and historical archive are the most striking aspects of this residence. The visit will be made in small groups of 10 people, in order to optimise the experience.

The Palacio de Liria is considered the largest urban private residence in Madrid and the finest aristocratic mansion, second only to the Royal Palace. Although neoclassical in style, the architect Louis Guilbert was inspired by Parisian petit hôtel-style residences for the design of this building.

Numerous illustrious personalities have visited this palace, some examples are: Oscar Wilde, Miguel de Unamuno, Ortega y Gasset, Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt, Chaplin and Bruce Springsteen. However, the jewel in the palace's crown are its artistic, historical and bibliographical treasures. Several unique paintings by Fra Angelico, Titian and a painting by Renoir can be found here.

The gardens have changed from the geometric shape of the French to the more romantic style of the English. Here there is a pet cemetery with various statues of animals where the dukes buried their favourite dogs.

The history of the palace is part of the culture and history of Madrid, I thought it was important to know it personally. The tour is not very long and is very enjoyable with the audio guide.
