Step by Step

This experience takes you through the most imperial and historical Spain on an excursion to Toledo, El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen. You'll be transported to and from Madrid and you'll get to know places of great relevance to the country's history.

A professional guide will go with you providing you with interesting information while you walk through the streets of the City of 3 Cultures and explore these two monumental complexes. During your visit to El Escorial Monastery, you will also be provided with headphones so you can listen to the guide's presentation.

The capital of the Castile-La Mancha region, Toledo, is one of the places you will visit. This medieval city is steeped in Moorish, Jewish and Christian history, as well as being surrounded by a wall and boasting a multitude of centuries-old buildings.

The Monastery of El Escorial is a complex on the outskirts of Madrid that was commissioned by Philip II to commemorate the victory at the Battle of San Quentin. This abysmal building served as the home of several Spanish kings and has a basilica, a pantheon, a library, a school and a monastery.

Finally, the Valley of the Fallen is another key site in Spanish history. Its construction was ordered by General Francisco Franco and it is the main monument in honour of his regime, Francoism. The raison d'être of this monument was to commemorate Franco's victory over the Republicans and it was here that he was buried.
