Step by Step
This excursion takes in two of the island's must-see attractions: Palma de Mallorca and the picturesque village of Valldemossa. The itinerary lasts about 4 hours and includes both a local guide and bus transport between the capital and the village in the Tramuntana mountain range.
Normally, the first part starts in a central location in Palma, such as the Parc de la Mar, just a stone's throw from the Cathedral of Santa Maria. Nicknamed La Seu, it stands out for its Gothic appearance and its privileged location just a stone's throw from the sea. It also houses the Cathedral Museum, which exhibits sculptures, paintings and sacred silver objects.
Next to the great temple is an old Muslim citadel converted into a palace for the Christian kings: the Palau de l'Almudaina. King James I the Conqueror commissioned the construction of a square structure with high walls and watchtowers. The jewel in the crown is the Gothic chapel of Santa Ana and the S'Hort del Rei garden.
Before getting on the bus, there is something else to see in Palma: the city hall. It is located in Plaza de Cort and stands out for its Baroque façade. Finally, you will reach Valldemossa, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Its medieval layout hides some gems that are well worth discovering.
- Palace of King Sancho - It was built in the 14th century to house Sancho I, son of James II, in order to relieve his asthma.
- Real Cartuja - A complex of buildings that belonged to the Carthusian monks. Its landmark is the church which is flanked by a bell tower with its green tiled roof. Outside are the pretty Jardines del Rey Juan Carlos I (King Juan Carlos I Gardens ).
- Church of San Bartomeu - Gothic church dedicated to the patron saint of the village.
- Mirador de Miranda des Lledoners - The best panoramic viewpoint in Valldemossa.
At the end of the visit, the bus will accompany you back to Palma de Mallorca. As usual, the stage in Valldemossa lasts about 1 hour. During your stay I recommend you try the town's gastronomic speciality : coca de patata (potato coca).
