You will also visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where, schedule permitting, you can witness the solemn changing of the guard ceremony. In addition, you will pay tribute to the victims of the space shuttles Columbia and Challenger, learning more about the modern memorials in the cemetery.
After a lunch break (own expense), the tour continues at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, where a two-hour guided tour will take you through some of the country's most fascinating exhibits. Here, you'll have the chance to see iconic artefacts such as the Star-Spangled Banner, the original flag that inspired the national anthem, and the gunboat Philadelphia, an 18th-century warship.
From the history of transportation and science to the evolution of American ideals and military conflicts, this museum offers a comprehensive overview of America's history.
