Step by Step
Charleston is full of history, but not all of it has been told. This walking tour invites you to discover the city from a different perspective: that of the women who shaped its cultural, social and political development. Over the course of two hours, you will follow a passionate guide who will give voice to the "Badass Broads" of Charleston.
The tour begins at Bitty and Beau's Coffee, where your guide in a light blue shirt with the "JWalk Tours" logo awaits you. From there, you'll walk to iconic sites while listening to fascinating tales of female figures who defied the norms of their time and left a lasting legacy.
You'll visit places like St. Philip's Church, where the role of women in the city's early days is contextualized; the Pink House Gallery, with its colonial charm; and Rainbow Row, one of Charleston's most photographed spots, accompanied by equally vibrant stories.
You'll also pass through optional admission sites such as the Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon and the Nathaniel Russell House, where women are often left out of official history, but on this tour, women are the stars.
This tour is ideal for history buffs, feminists, the curious, and anyone interested in a more inclusive and enriching narrative of Charleston.
