Step by Step

Explore America's largest national forest with this approximately 5.5 hour tour to the Mendenhall Glacier from Juneau, Alaska's capital city. Use the shuttle service from downtown and join a professional guide into the depths of the Tongass Wilderness.

Board a canoe in small groups of about 14 people and cruise across Mendenhall Lake. See breathtaking scenery including icebergs, giant waterfalls and wildlife, and at the end of the trip enjoy a hot drink and some snacks to combat the cold.

Climb aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned van for the transfer to the starting point and be whisked deep into the Tongass National Forest, where the Mendenhall Glacier resides. Together with your guide you will enter the wilderness of this vast rainforest and hike through areas dominated by towering spruce trees and fir trees.

Together with your group and guide, you will head directly to the west side of Mendenhall Lake, where you will board a canoe. After dressing and putting on all safety equipment you will paddle across the lake and experience the remote beauty of the glacier. Glide down to the base of the glacier and along the way see beautiful blue icebergs, native wildlife and giant waterfalls and cliffs .

Once the canoe is docked on the beach, you will follow your guide through dense vegetation and rocky surfaces directly in front of the glacier. Listen to the history of the area during the hike and walk along the rocky moraine until you have a front row view of the immense, rapidly receding glacial ice.

Get as close as possible to the face of the Mendenhall Glacier and get a close-up view of its imposing blue crevasses and magnificent ice formations. Don't miss this constantly moving and changing glacier environment, and after the hike and paddle back, warm up with a hot drink and snacks .

After the tour, you'll hop back in the vehicle and enjoy a ride back to downtown Juneau.

This tour is worth every dollar paid. As much as I have worked in snow resorts before, this is the first time I have felt so much magic in one place through its landscapes.
