  • By booking online, you will be able to choose the seat of your choice at the theater.

Did you know that the American ticket market is dynamic? This means that prices go up as the date of the musical approaches and supply decreases (for example, as do flights) so if you wait to buy them on the day of the show or a few days before you run the risk of tickets selling out or having very few tickets available, at exorbitant prices and in sectors with less spectacular visibility.

Surely you know the names of George Washington or Thomas Jefferson (politicians of great importance in the history of the United States) but perhaps the name of Alexander Hamilton (another of the founding fathers of the country) sounds a little less familiar to you.

This musical tells the story of Hamilton, an orphan from the Caribbean who after a series of circumstances ends up coming to the United States and becoming a very important figure in both the War of Independence and the first government of the country.

Really, what catches you in this musical is that the story is told in an innovative way and with a very original perspective that surprises the viewer: to rap rhythm, with little dialogue and through a risky and interactive staging in which abound some amazing lighting and sound effects. It is the biggest Broadway hit of the last decade.

What level of English do I need to see Hamilton on Broadway?

Hamilton is one of the few Broadway musicals for which you will need to have a good base of English because the cast sings quite fast and uses many puns, so if you do not have some fluency with the language, sometimes it can be easy to get lost.

However, on the Internet you can find the full soundtrack and the lyrics of the songs so if you do not master the English language, I advise you to take a look before attending the show so you can familiarize yourself with it and you can better catch the spirit of the play.

The musical Hamilton is intended for an adult audience because there is some "strong language" in the dialogue.

However, the theater allows access to children 4 years and older who have their own ticket, although it is more recommended for children 10 years and older who have a good level of English.

There is no specific dress code for attending a Broadway musical. It is customary to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing. Kind of like smart-casual etiquette since no one usually overdresses as if it were the opera.

Should I have dinner before or after the show?

This depends on the session you are going to and the sightseeing schedule you have prepared for the day of the performance. In any case, I recommend you to have a snack before going in as Hamilton is a long performance and it is not as enjoyable if your stomach is rumbling.

In the surroundings you will find plenty of options to eat something to eat since the theater is located near Times Square, a very central area of New York. Everything is always open there and it will be easy for you to find a place to kill your appetite. For example:

I had no idea that there is actually a famous wall on Wall Street! We stopped there and saw the NYSE, Hamilton's tomb and the tavern where Hamilton and Burr spent their last nights. Our guide knows a ton about Hamilton and about NY history in general.

Both my daughter and I really enjoyed the tour, which lasted about two or three hours (we totally lost track of time). If my daughter, who is only 13 years old, was able to stay focused and keep her attention during the whole time, it means that the tour was very interesting! She especially liked the references to Hamilton's musical and the cemetery where he is buried with his friends.
