Step by Step
For about 7 hours, you will have the opportunity to discover some of the lesser-known but most beautiful places in all of San Francisco. On a comfortable bus tour, you'll depart from the city centre and travel along the California coastline all the way to Alcatraz Island .
Along the way, you'll enjoy the air-conditioned bus while an expert guide tells you about the history of the places you pass by.
You'll cross the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, which for nearly 100 years has linked the San Francisco Bay to Marin County. In Marin County, you'll see the Sausalito neighbourhood. It is characterised by its fishing harbour and its typical houseboats, which number in the hundreds. It is also known for being a place of residence for celebrities and upper class people who prefer to stay away from the big city crowds. From here, you can take some of the best pictures of Alcatraz Island and San Francisco Bay.
You'll also see Muir Woods, a famous forest that was declared a national monument in 1908. With more than 295 hectares, it is a true nature reserve, full of a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna. The forest is also famous for its giant sequoias, which are on average 800-900 years old.
These trees are famous for their height of up to 150 metres and their trunk thickness of 5-7 metres. But redwoods are not only remarkable for their size, they are also known for their longevity, as they can live up to 4,000 years.
The tour will end with a visit to Alcatraz Island. The driver will drop you off at the pier to board the ferry to the island. Once there, you will be able to tour the island with an audio guide, where you can learn about its history, as well as about what was once the most secure prison in the United States. When you finish your visit to the island, you can take the ferry back to San Francisco with the ticket included in the tour.
