Step by Step
The Safari de Peaugres is one of the largest zoos in France and is home to a wide variety of animals from all over the world. Buy a ticket and you're sure to see the local wildlife. As well as the more traditional species, such as tigers and lions, there are some animals that are difficult to see either in zoos or in the wild:
- Deerhounds - A very elusive animal, distantly related to the domestic dog and the wild dog, although more reminiscent of a weasel. It has unmistakable anatomical features, such as partially webbed toes. They are very rare and few zoos offer the opportunity to see them up close.
- Mining Toad - Inhabits hilly and humid areas of tropical and subtropical forests, especially near streams. It is recognisable by its distinctive yellow and black skin, although colouring can vary depending on other factors, such as sex and age.
- Red Polecat - Also known as the river polecat, it is a species of wild pig found in various regions of Africa. It has short, rough red or brown fur and curved tusks that it uses to dig for food.
The safari provides information on endangered species and also on the importance of conservation and environmental protection.
