Step by Step
This tour starts in the south of Bali and reaches one of the most sacred places for Hindus: the Batur volcano. A vehicle will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the slopes of the mountain. Afterwards, an expert guide will lead the group to accompany you to the summit, where you will enjoy a splendid sunset view.
The tour usually starts in the evening (you need to reach the crater before sunrise) and lasts approximately 10 hours. It is a private activity - only your group of family and/or friends participate - and includes everything you might need: breakfast, water, coffee and tea. Normally, the guide prepares some eggs (ideal to recover energy) using the heat given off by the rocks.
Batur is one of two active volcanoes on the island and rises to over 1,700 metres above sea level. The hike to the crater takes about two and a half hours and is not excessively difficult. However, it is advisable to bring
- Hiking shoes
- Windbreaker jacket
- Long trousers
- Torch
- Sunglasses
Bear in mind that when you start walking, it will still be dark and therefore a bit chilly. A good tip is to dress in layers, to avoid problems of hot or cold weather. There are food vendors at the summit and if you wish to supplement the breakfast included in the hike, you will need to carry some cash. On the return journey you will visit a coffee plantation.
