Experience Highlights

This entrance gives access to the Enchanted Castle of Sciacca, a garden-museum born from the mind of Filippo Bentivegna. The Sicilian artist modelled this space, creating sculptures and some 3,000 heads carved in stone. It also houses a small museum with photos and videos of its creator.

  • Enter a garden-museum decorated with sculptures, paintings and limestone heads.
  • Discover the life of Filippo Bentivegna, the artist who created the Enchanted Castle.
  • Enjoy the view over the Mediterranean and Mount Kronio.

Step by Step

Tickets for the Enchanted Castle allow you to discover Sciacca's most unique attraction. It is really an open-air garden-museum with stone paths winding through olive trees, caves and, above all, some 3,000 heads carved in limestone. It is a magical and surreal place, nestled between the slopes of Mount Kronio and the Mediterranean.

This unique place owes its genesis to Filippo Bentivegna, who in his lifetime was considered an eccentric. Born in 1888 in Sciacca, he emigrated to the United States in search of fortune. While on the other side of the ocean, he received a blow to the head that most likely undermined his mental health and in 1919 he returned to his homeland.

He then bought a piece of land and devoted all his energies to creating this Enchanted Castle. The heads were his "subjects" and over the years he sculpted more than 20,000 of them. Some of these sculptures are in the Collection de l'Art Brut in Lausanne and in private collections.

The "Musée d'Art Brut" in Lausanne exhibiting Bentivegna's sculptures is proof of the international scope of his art and legacy.

His nickname "The Lord of the Caves" shows his personality and passion for his work. Each sculpture had its own story to tell.
