Step by Step
This tour departs from Casablanca and goes to Rabat, a modern city, but which preserves splendid relics of antiquity. The tour lasts approximately 6 hours and includes hotel pick-up and an expert guide. Lunch is not included, but you will find several options in the city.
The first stop is usually the Necropolis of Chellah, located just outside the walls of Rabat. A Unesco World Heritage Site, it contains a series of medieval tombs and the ruins of the Zaouia mosque and Koranic school. The itinerary then touches on the following points of interest:
- Hasan Tower - Minaret which was part of an unfinished project: the largest mosque in the world. Sultan Yaqoub al-Mansour began construction, but work was halted after his death.
- Mausoleum of Muhammad V - A splendid example of Alawite dynasty architecture. On the outside, it is notable for its white walls that contrast with the green roof. It is dedicated to the sultan who ruled Morocco for two terms - from 1927 to 1953 and from 1957 to 1961 - and fought tenaciously for the country's independence.
- Casbah of the Udayas - A military fortification of Roman origin - used to control the city of Sala Colonia - transformed over the centuries into a veritable city within the city. It is characterised by traditional houses and walls painted white and blue.
- Royal Palace - The official residence of the King of Morocco. It is surrounded by a French-style garden
As usual, the route ends at the Old Market, where it is possible to buy a souvenir or taste the traditional gastronomy.
