Step by Step
The walking tour focuses on the oldest part of the city: the French Quarter. A professional photographer will take souvenir photos of you in the most emblematic and evocative places. You will receive your photos after 3/10 working days.
The tour lasts about 1 hour and passes through the main points of the neighbourhood, among which you could visit:
- St. Louis Cathedral - Its construction dates back to the 18th century and is dedicated to King Louis IX. Originally a simple wooden structure, it was later transformed into the neo-gothic masterpiece we can admire today.
- Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar - Originally a blacksmith's shop, it is now a bar offering excellent cocktails and live music. It takes its name from the French privateer Jean Lafitte. According to locals, his ghost still haunts the place.
- Marie Laveau House of Voodoo - New Orleans is the voodoo capital of America. Marie Laveau was a freed slave who became the priestess of this particular religion. Her house was frequented by thousands of believers and is now a shop full of dolls. You can take advantage of the stage to buy a souvenir.
- Preservation Hall - Historic New Orleans jazz hall.
- Jackson Square - A large square in front of the Cathedral. You'll recognise it by the carriages, street performers and food and craft stalls.
- Café du Monde Riverwalk - An iconic bar that owes its fame to the beignets.
- The Presbytere - A brick building created to house church staff. Today it houses a collection of Mardi Gras memorabilia.
- Royal Street - Famous for its craft and thrift shops.
You'll also pass through Bourbon Street, the most famous street in the French Quarter. It runs parallel to the Mississippi River and is famous for its many live music bars and Creole restaurants. Another place associated with music is Louis Armstrong Park, the park dedicated to New Orleans' most famous musician. It is home to Congo Square, the square where African-American slaves used to gather to sing and play live music. In spring and autumn it still hosts jazz jam sessions.
