Step by Step

Discover incredible wildlife with this boat trip to one of the world's largest penguin colonies from Ushuaia . Climb aboard a comfortable boat with fellow travellers and for approximately 5 hours let a professional guide take you through the beautiful scenery of the Beagle Channel. Visit Martillo Island, home to millions of penguins and while watching them up close learn about their behaviour and biology thanks to live commentary .

Departing from the picturesque port of Ushuaia towards the centre of the Beagle Channel, you'll board a comfortable catamaran and enjoy a leisurely trip to the home of millions of penguins.

As you sail away from the coast, you will enjoy the incredible panoramic views of the entire city and mountains of Tierra de Fuego. As well as taking in the city at the "end of the world", you'll also be treated to views of Mount Olivia, Cinco Hermanos Hill, the Túnel and Fique Estancias, and the lacy river.

Next you will visit the home of several species. First you will pass Isla de los Lobos, where you will see beautiful sea lions in their habitat , and then continue to Isla de los Pájaros, home to small Magellanic and Imperial Cormorants. Here you will also see other Fuegian birdlife such as skuas, black-browed albatrosses, geese and even kelp gulls and grey gulls.

After seeing the cormorants that live on the Pajaro Islands, the boat will continue its journey to the famous and well-known Martillo Island, home to one of the most famous Magellanic penguin colonies in the world . Watch the penguins as they swim, dive and waddle gracefully on land, and after taking photos of them, you'll head to other historic sites. Including Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse with the story of the sinking of the SS Monte Cervantes, to the Puerto Williams Naval Base, Isla Grande and Estancia Remolino, where the old ship Monte Sarmiento is stranded.

Spend time viewing and photographing the penguins on Martillo Island and after the five hour excursion, return to port to finish your tour.

An unforgettable boat trip! The penguins were amazing and the scenery was dreamlike. I give it a 9 because the weather was a bit cold, but still, highly recommended!

The penguin watching was an unforgettable experience, but the boat trip was a bit too long for my taste.
