Step by Step
This experience lasts 4 to 5 hours and runs along the Zambezi River, the fourth longest river in Africa. An air-conditioned vehicle will pick you up from your hotels in Livingstone, Victoria Falls and Kasane. From there you will drive to the starting point, where you will meet an expert guide.
The experience includes equipment hire (kayak, paddle, helmet and life jacket) and drinks to keep you hydrated. It also includes lunch, which you'll enjoy after descending the river. If you wish, at the end of the day you can buy photos and videos of the descent.
The tour takes place in the vicinity of the Batoka Gorge, where the waters become more impetuous. However, if it's your first time, you can opt for a beginner's tour. The Zambezi River is consideredone of the best rafting rivers in the world. Its rapids are class 3 and 5 and the river flows through an impressive canyon with basalt walls.
This area is also known to be home to numerous birdlife. With a bit of luck you may spot the Taita falcon (a small, agile bird of prey that is widespread in much of East Africa) or the large, dark-plumaged brown eagle.
